HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR NEW TATTOO

Every artist has their own advice on the best way to heal your fresh tattoo, and even our artists in store have their own preferences they will advise you on.

However, below is a general guide that may help if you do forget anything they mention after your tattoo is complete! Happy Healing!

IF CLING FILM WRAPPED:

  • Leave the cling film on for around 2 - 3 hours

  • Wash your hands before removing the wrap.

  • Gently remove the cling film and wash the tattoo with cool/lukewarm water. Use antibacterial soap if available; DO NOT use regular soap.

  • Gently pat dry with a clean towel.

  • Apply a light, even layer of your non-scented moisturiser - just enough to leave a light sheen on the skin.

    • You may use Kanzo or Ink Doctor now in stock at Devlin Ink, or any other tattoo balm.‍ ‍

  • Apply your moisturiser 2-3 times a day for 2-3 weeks.

IF SECOND SKIN APPLIED:

  • Keep the second skin on for around 48 hours.

  • Remove slowly in lukewarm running water by pulling the film towards yourself. For ease, this can be done in the shower.

  • Wash the tattoo with antibacterial soap.

  • Apply a light, even layer of non-scented moisturiser - just enough to leave a light sheen on the skin.

  • Apply your moisturiser 2-3 times a day for 2-3 weeks.

ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Keep the tattoo out of direct sunlight until the tattoo is healed; this is for around 10 days

  • Do not go on sunbeds until the tattoo is healed; this is for at least 10 days,

  • Do not soak the tattoo in the bath, jacuzzi, swimming pool or other water while it is healing. Showering is fine.

  • Do not rub, scratch or pick the tattoo while it is healing. This will cause loss of saturation, could cause an infection, and you will lose your right to a free touch-up.

  • Tattoos can take around 2-4 weeks to heal.

  • Sun exposure fades your tattoos. Once healed, apply at least SPF 30 to preserve your tattoo for many years.

  • Consult a Doctor immediately if you develop severe redness accompanied by green/yellow discharge, foul odour, and/or fever.
